Birdy turns 5!

Whew! Birdy's birthday was the day after we got back from our vacation. We planned ahead and had most things ready, but we hadn't planned on Bear's 104.7 temp and exorcist vomiting and a trip to urgent care! In spite of that excitement, our girl still had a pretty good day!
Her big day started out with yummy hotcakes made by Daddy.  Then she got to open her present from Grandma and Grandpa K and play with it for a while before church.  She was so excited that her birthday was also a church day- she really wanted the kids to sing to her and to get a treat from the Bishop.
Daddy stayed home with a sick Bear and wrapped up all her presents so they were ready for her to open when we got home.  EJ gave her the new Barbie movie and a Merleah doll!  Daddy gave her her very own "two wheel" scooter- it is super cool because it has stickers and "bracelets" that you can decorate it with.
She also got a "furry frenzy" puppy (like a zhu zhu pet, only a puppy), a stuffed teacup piggy and a Barbie puzzle.  After presents, we had her birthday dinner:
Roasted cauliflower, meatloaf and fruit salad- all requested by the birthday girl.  It sure beats the pizza-and-bacon rut we've been in for the last few years with both girls!  We need to feed our kids more of the classics, I guess. I did a freezer dinner group with some friends at church and two of the meals were meatloaf and shepard's pie (not a tomato-based one). Birdy raved about the meatloaf and picked it for her birthday dinner. They also really loved the shepards pie (and, surprisingly, so did I!).
Birdy didn't want a decorated cake this year. She wanted a chocolate chip cheesecake like one we sampled at Sam's Club (on a temporary deal, so of COURSE I couldn't go buy one!).  Because of our adventures in Urgent Care and the fact that the cheesecake needed over 2 hrs to set and cool, we didn't get to cake until the next night. Birdy was really great and understanding and liked her cake when we finally had it :)
