We were so lucky that we talked DMP's dad, Papper, into coming for a visit! We were even luckier that we had great weather- even getting up to the upper 70's for a day or two. We all wished he could have stayed longer, or that we could keep him forever!
The girls had school, so he and Bear spent a lot of time hanging out (Rosie, too!). Bear taught him how to use the tablet and they built blocks, fought with pillows and threw a ball. Bear was mystified by Papper's watch- he asked him "Why do you have a clock there?" (meaning his wrist).
In addition to hanging out and waiting for the girls to get home from school, we were able to take Papper on some adventures! DMP took him and the girls to the big Dallas zoo. They really liked it a lot and it was a perfect day for it! We also got him to try all kinds of new foods like Vietnamese, BBQ, kolaches and soba, and Freddy's burgers. He even ate sushi!
It was really special to see Birdy and Papper. She would happily read to him every night, and insisted he be the one to tuck her in. They developed a special friendship this visit!
One nice Saturday, we took Papper to a park to play and fly kites. He said he couldn't remember the last time he'd flown a kite! We even got him his very own special "Hulk smash" kite :)
Papper tried to do his part to make Bear into a real car-racing-loving Philips by having him watch the Daytona 500. Sadly, the race was delayed for rain and didn't come back on until after bedtime. Good effort anyway!
We had a lot of adventures, and even more yummy food, but the best time was just hanging out and playing, like reading books or doing puzzles!
We had so much fun, we hope we can convince Papper to become a snowbird and spend the winter in TX with us! Please! Please! (also, look! Three generations of handsome Philips!
