Meet Rosie!

Hey everyone! Meet the newest addition to our family- Rosie!  Some of you may have noticed while we were in UT that I've been a *little* dog-hungry :)  I couldn't help but start to surf rescue sites when we got back.  We went to a local no-kill shelter to check out another dog, an adorable lahsa-poo that was perfect- playful, over a year old, and sweet as can be.  After much deliberation we decided he was our dog.  Sadly, he failed the "cat test"- growling and barking at cats.  The kids and I were both really sad.

 

After we got home I decided that we weren't ready to get a dog yet and we should wait until after school started.  However, I couldn't stop thinking about a sweet little dog that we saw when we were at the shelter.  We couldn't take her out to meet her, because she had just been spayed.  I finally decided to go back a couple of days later and check her out.  We met her, she got along with the kids very well and was just the sweetest, softest girl ever.  We were all happy when she passed the cat test and we took her home with us.

There were so many things that shouldn't have worked with her- she had only been at the shelter for a couple of days (she was picked up as a stray) and no one knew much about her.  There was no evidence that she was potty trained and she didn't show any interest in playing ball or anything like that (something we really wanted).  I'm so glad we took a gamble on her!

In the past week that we've had her, we are seeing her personality more and more.  She is smart- she learned to be quiet in her crate after only 2 nights.  She is mostly calm and not a big barker.  She loves the cats and really, really wants to play with them- they aren't interested, to say the least.  She is learning better leash manners and getting better at not jumping on new people.  She has almost learned to go to her crate when she's told (at night).  She has only had one accident in the house on the first day home and seems to be pretty much housebroken. She loves sticks and chewing on ice. 

She's shown an interest in chewing on things that she isn't supposed to, also.  She chewed up a pair of Bear's sandals a stuffed animal (yay dog! Eat them all!) and a toy shark (Dog vs. Shark= Dog Wins!).  However, we bought her some chewies and are more careful about keeping an eye on her and not leaving things out where she likes to hang out and chew when she's bored.

 

All the kids really love her.  We have all enjoyed taking her for walks - it has even helped us meet some neighbors!  We are really lucky to have found her!
