On Sept. 28,
EJ turned 6! The pic above is the official cake. I like to call it "Ariel trapped on a desert island, surrounded by shark-infested water".
EJ wanted an "ocean" birthday party, just like her
cousin Sarah had earlier this year. (Unfortunately, our food and party wasn't nearly as creative!)
More about her "ocean" party later. Mommy and
Birdy met
EJ at school with a bunch of birthday balloons. Then we played while we waited for Daddy to come home for special birthday dinner. As you can see,
EJ chose some of her favorite foods for her birthday
dinner. Hotcakes, bacon and "doubled eggs" and milk (not pictured). I guess it was less weird than last year's
pepperoni pizza and bacon combo, right?
She got a bunch of presents from the family- a Liv Doll (she decided these were cool after cousin Lauren visited with hers...), a set of Tinkerbell figurines (picked out by
Birdy), Clothes for her Ty
Girlz doll (Grandma gave her the doll earlier in the week), and the Barbie and the Fashion Fairytale movie. Aunt Kate also gave her a movie theater snack Play
Doh set.
After present opening with the family she got to blow out 6 candles on her (store bought) cupcakes. The "real" birthday cake made it's appearance the next day at her "friend" party. Why a friend party the next day? Well, this mommy wasn't about to tackle a party with 7 kids by herself and that was the day
DMP gets out of class early-
ish.
Inspired by Sarah's party decorations and their custom-painted sea creatures,
EJ and
Birdy painted their own fish, sharks and jellyfish. We completed the decorations with "bubbles" and streamers everywhere.
Her friends brought lots of presents!
We played lots of ocean-themed games like a mermaid race (hopping with both legs tightly together like "fins"), crab-walk race, "shark in the water (like tag) and "Don't pop the bubble" (aka balloon don't touch the ground).
As you can see, baby Bear enjoyed the whole thing :)
One of the best presents was a gumball machine from Sam!
Dinner was
octo-dogs, sea shell mac 'n cheese and "bubbles" (grapes).
I think the desert island was improved by the addition of the
tiki torches, don't you?
