Day three stared out early with music provided by Cubby and EJ on the panio, Birdy on tamborine and Norah on the alligator piano. Go ahead, sing "Ebony and Ivory" to yourself a bit. I'll wait.
Moving on... Lauren joined us for a fun day that started with a visit to the newly-redone California Academy of Sciences museum. One of the highlights is a 4 story indoor rainforest with butterflies, plants and insects found in rainforests throughout the world. Very cool.
One of the four stories included the flooded Amazon basin. It had a cool see-through tunnel that you could walk through and look at the giant catfish and other big, jungle freshwater fish like this one that apparently wants to eat Lauren.
The museum also includes an aquarium that was really neat- even after the Monterey Aquarium earlier in the week the girls were interested.
My favorite part of the whole trip was "visiting" with this pacific giant Octopus. I seriously am trying to figure out how I can get a pet octopus. These guys are really smart and interesting critters. As you can see, this one was really active while we were there.
There is also a planetarium and natural history museum. It was a very cool place to visit, but it was VERY crowded and that cut into the fun a bit.
Next it was off accross the Golden Gate bridge to Muir Woods- a nearby Nat'l Monument that has giant Coast redwoods. DMP and I came here the summer I was living with Bek and it was seriously one of my favorite places to go.
First, though, we realized we are dorks and hadn't learned anything in the previous days in the Bay area and we had to find a store. We stopped at Ross for long sleeves for the girls (our sweatshirts were still in the car) and ended up with matching hoodies for Lulu and EJ!
Then, finally it was off to Muir Woods where Birdy played guide with her "map".
Lulu was kind enough to take a family picture of us. Not bad! She told me she wants to learn to be a photographer like her Mom!
The woods are so amazing and peaceful. I could seriously live there. The trees are amazing and beautiful. If you are in the area, you should take the time to go- it is very kid friendly with paved and mostly level walking paths.
Wouldn't you know it- we stopped at one last beach (our 6th- but who's counting?!?) and our camera battery died. It was finally sunny and warm enough to be out side and play in the water and sand a bit. We did have our Flip and got some video of the big girls playing in the water. EJ would run screaming from all of the waves. It was pretty funny.
